Todays assignment this Bertram 42 Pre-Purchase Marine Survey in Preveza Greece

Bertram has a well-deserved reputation for building rugged, high quality boats. Bertram has an interesting history, for it was one of the three first production boat companies to start up in 1961 along with Hatteras and the Henry Hinckley Company, all known for producing top quality boats that have survived to this day.  Well, almost, for the current status of Bertram seems to be that it is teetering on the edge of extinction.

Yacht Survey on this Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DS in Preveza Greece

Todays Inspection was on this Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 DSThis was the owner's version layout and boasted an impressive aft owner's cabin with a spacious en-suite plus two large double forward cabins. This was a great example of the popular 50 DS with the most sought after layout.

Its construction is sound, and it’s an easy-to-sail vessel with an electrically assisted sailplan, a lot of entertainment space, and a cleverly designed convertible interior.

She was equipped with an optional 110-horsepower diesel that could drive it to hull speed with a bit of throttle to spare.

Copper coat epoxy antifouling should last for years!

Check out the engine test. - Mastervolt heavy duty alternator 130A* (additional)

3 Blade 20" Flexofold self folding.

Pre-Purchase Survey Preveza Steel Ketch

Todays Inspection and Ultrasound Survey was on this Carena 40ft long keel, centre cockpit ketch, designed by H.Lemstra in Amsterdam and built in 1990. She would make a fast, safe and comfortable passage-maker and live aboard.

Sand blasting time I think!

Todays assignment was this Pre-Purchase Survey and Valuation on this 385 Broadblue Catamaran in Preveza in the Ionian Islands.

Just a heads up for BLOG readers. I am presently in Preveza for the whole of October 2021. If you have your eye on a Yacht here or Lefkada, Nidri please drop me an email. I maybe able to help you. steventruss1@aol.com

This was Broadblues most popular model for long distance cruising and combines ease of handling with robust construction, modern hull form, quality craftsmanship and elegant joinery. She is designed for single or short-hand sailing and achieves this by combining a smaller mainsail and larger headsails with all lines led aft to the cockpit.  All sail handling can be done without needing to venture away from the cockpit.

The Broadblue 385 is built to the level of European Recreational Craft Directive: Category A (Ocean) and is built using the good quality materials. She is virtually unsinkable due to her watertight bulkheads and buoyancy compartments fore and aft. The keels are integrally moulded and sealed off from the hulls forming a double bottom.

2012 model. This year was the most successful of the range and incorporates much of the Prout design but with modern materials

Hillyard 20 ton Yacht Survey for Pre-Purchase and Valuation.

Just a 'heads up' for my BLOG readers. I will be in Preveza from the 1st of October until the 1st of November 2021. This months inspections include: Bavaria 40, Broadblue Catamaran, Glaros Wooden Gulet, Carena 40 steel Ketch, Jeanneau 50DS. Blogs on each inspection to follow with more to be booked.

Todays Inspection was on this Classic Hillyard 20 Tonner on the Island of Samos in Greece. The exact number of these yachts built by Hillyard's is not known. It could have been as many as 800 and there are records of around 600 with tonnages between 2.5 and 29. The yachts quality of sea kindliness is legendary. I have actually owned a 2.5 tonner and also a 20 tonner over the years. The smaller yacht I left in pieces in a boatyard in Kent, UK before heading off to Newzealand. I often wonder what happened to her!

David Hillyard established his reputation as a builder of pinnaces and other small wooden vessels for the Admiralty in the First World War. In the very early 1920's he commenced building sailing yachts at the yard in Littlehampton for private ownership. One of the earliest, Twinkler 4 tons 1922, is still being sailed by owners Ted and Diana Evans out of Woodbridge on the River Deben, Suffolk.

This one was planked in mahogany and Iroko all copper fastened to sawn oak frames with steamed intermediate oak timbers. Oak backbone and grown oak floors. External iron ballast keel with Plywood decks overlaid with cascover sheathing.

Rigging Survey also included!
