Marine Survey for Insurance on this shpountz 38/40

I was carrying out an Insurance Survey and Valuation on this stunning Schooner today in Samos, Greece. She is a shpountz 38/40  built in France in 1999. 12.9 meters on deck. Cold moulded Iroko hull insuring very little maintenance.

She is one of approximately 45 built and was designed by Daniel Bombigherun.  Constructed from monoblock moulded Iroko wood hull on strong laminated frames.
Another interesting Schooner in for some planking...

An old Hillyard Yacht lost in Greece. (and up for SALE). Most 'Hillyarders' are based in the UK, and Ireland, but a good number cruise their yachts from the coast of Europe, North America, also Australia!

Local Greek Fishing Boat...

Typical Gaffer with seriously raked masts!

By the way: "SHPOUNTZ" is an old gypsy word meaning the village idiot. Not the one we make fun of but the one who knows the secrets of the winds, the springs and the flowers!

This from a french television showing how the builder commissioned her!

30 metre Dutch Motor Yacht for Insurance Survey

Time for the Insurance Survey on 'Ras' this week at D-Marin ship yard in Turkey. This was just the underwater inspection before she returns home to Samos Marina where we will complete the system surveys.

'Ras' was built in 1985 by Dutch shipyard De Hoop, in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, to a design by De Vries Lentsch. She was lengthened in 1999 from 28 metres to 30 meters. Her original name was Vagasto, and she later became Poncho IV.

Iroko Turkish Gulet for sale.

We are at Lakki Marina in LEROS again this week Surveying this lovely old Gulet.

Leros situated between Patmos Lipsi and Kalimnos and Kos in the Dodecanese islands. Leros like most of the Greek islands is an island of small fertile valleys sandwiched between rolling green hills, deep coves and pretty beaches.

This unusual twin screw version!

A Gulet (Turkish pronunciation: [ɡuˈlet]) is a traditional design of a two-masted or three-masted wooden sailing vessel (the most common design has two masts) from the southwestern coast of Turkey, particularly built in the coastal towns of Bodrum and Marmaris; although similar vessels can be found all around the eastern Mediterranean. Today, this type of vessel, varying in size from 14 to 35 metres, is popular for tourist charters. For considerations of crew economy, diesel power is now almost universally used and many are not properly rigged for sailing.
