2008 Beneteau 50.4 Cyclade for Sale and Yacht Survey Greece

Todays Yacht Survey assignment was in Lefkada, Ionian Islands, Greece this 2008 Beneteau 50.4 Cyclades Sloop for sale.
Yes she's built in a production facility, probably quite quickly, but I was impressed overall compared to other production built yachts and pleasantly surprised how well she had been put together. They are highly sought-after this model and for a good reason. She features a very desirable, accommodating layout for a 50 footer. Perfect for charter in Greece!

Each cabin features its own head and shower. There is also a crew/storage/workshop way forward, accessed through a foredeck hatch. A spacious galley to port with ample fridge/freezer space and seating for 10+ around the dining table to starboard.

Lots of power with this nice looking 110HP Yanmar diesel

Trying to sell your Yacht in Greece and need a Marine Survey to help?

Our Seller’s Survey assists the yacht owner or broker in gaining an independent insight into the condition of his yacht and protect his interests throughout the sales process. This will also enable the seller to address any issues found that would result in a negotiated reduction in price, all findings are totally confidential.

Stage 1: We inspect the vessel either in and/or out of the water with particular attention given to any aspects that may become potential issues during the sales process. The process can be as little as a walk through half day review of the vessel through to a full pre-purchase survey with sea trials.

Stage 2: We issue you with a confidential condition report including a market value if requested. Whilst the report is confidential we will allow the owner to use the report as part of the sales material.

Stage 3 (optional): If serious defects are found, we can arrange for the repairs before sales viewings commence, or manage the process at the shipyard for the owner at an extra cost. We can also return to inspect post repairs ensuring works are completed to a satisfactory standard if the owner chooses to manage works himself.

Stage 4: We attend all or part of the pre-purchase survey on the seller’s behalf to ensure that all procedures are carried out correctly and any findings or defects discovered are substantiated.

Inventory Service: A full or partial inventory of the vessel’s equipment and interior furnishings can also be provided.

One Off Design Ymir 58 footer for Survey in Samos Greece

1992 Custom Aluminium Ketch for Survey today in Karlovasi Shipyard on Samos Island.

This beautiful Ketch was built in 1992 to old plans at the German shipyard  Kühnemund,Schacht- Audorf in Schleswig-Holstein. She is a replica of a schooner that was used in Newfoundland in the 18th century to hunt alcohol smugglers!

Hull was 5mm alloy plate with paint coatings also recorded. Apparently the plating was used from an old aeroplane.

Another rope caught up in this cutless bearing. The rudder will have to be removed to draw the shaft. Though durable, these bearings will need to be replaced to  avoid vibrations or, worse, shaft, log, or strut damage due to overheating.

Todays Marine Survey in Nidri Preveza

‘Glaros’ was originally built as a Caïque, (a traditional fishing boat) usually found among the waters of the Ionian or Aegean Sea. Today, this type of vessel, varying in size are popular for tourist charters. Caïques were built on the foreshore in a shipyard from pine wood.

20 years ago the owner stripped her out for a major refit.

Nidri is full of wooden boats under repairs!

1998 Beneteau 50 Yacht for Survey in Preveza

Todays Inspection was this Pre-Purchase Survey and Valuation on this 1998 Beneteau 50 Cruiser.

Construction and What to Look For

The inboard mounted chain plates secure to tie rods down below to the hull. Beneteau mass produces these at their Marion, South Carolina factory and balances quality and cost. They use fiberglass liners to stiffen the hull. The hull is solid glass with a balsa cored deck. The hull-deck joint is the quality bulwark style. The mast is keel stepped enclosed below in a wood cover. The keel is external cast iron. For private owners, Beneteau made an owner’s version. This owner’s version has a single head and stateroom forward instead of the port starboard berths with forward heads. This layout is more attractive for cruising with a family – not to mention these version are non-chartered yachts.

History

Benjamin’s grandchildren Annette Beneteau Roux and Andre Beneteau started building fiberglass sailboats. In 1976, Andre Mauric designed 30-footer that kicks off their successful First series. These First series were great, quality offshore-able boats. In 1986, Beneteau opened a factory in Marion, South Carolina to build boats for the USA. Here, Beneteau started to focus more on quantity and the charter trade. In four years, they built 1,000 boats at the SC factory. In 14 years, they produced 3,500 yachts at the factory. One of the most success production-charter yachts they developed was the 50 Beneteau. This prolific Bruce Farr design has been the queen of Mooring’s charter fleet for over decade. Today, Madame Annette Beneteau Roux continues run Beneteau Yachts and focus on charter production.

Checking your Cutlass bearings!

Seawater is the sole lubricant for your boat’s propeller shaft as it spins its way through life, turning thousands of rpm for hundreds upon hundreds of hours while you’re under way. The shaft is supported, typically, at its inboard end by the coupling that’s attached to the transmission; its other end is held in place by a fluted rubber tube referred to as a shaft or Cutless bearing. This bearing can be found, depending on the boat’s design, either within a shaft log that passes through the hull or in a strut some distance from the keel.

The Cutless bearing is usually made from a hard, rubberlike substance known as nitrile. Longitudinal flutes or valleys in the rubber tube are designed to improve water flow and to flush away any grit or other hard material that might wear on the shaft. The outer shell of the bearing may be made of either naval brass or a non-metallic composite, the latter for use with aluminium struts or stern tubes where corrosion could be a problem. Though durable, these bearings will wear out, and then they must be replaced to avoid annoying vibrations or, worse, shaft, log, or strut damage.
