Jeanneau Sun Oddysey 39i for Marine Survey for Insurance

Todays Survey assignment was on a small island in the north Aegean called Leros. The municipality includes the populated offshore island of Farmakonisi, as well as several uninhabited islets, including Levitha and Kinaros and had a population of 7,917, although this figure swells to over 15,000 during the summer peak. Nearby islands are Patmos, Lipsi, Kalymnos, and the small islands of Agia Kyriaki and Farmakos. 

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 39i shares many of the qualities of the 39 DS. Thanks to a generous beam carried well aft, interior volume is greater than one would expect on a 39-footer. The boat’s a breeze to operate under sail or power: The helm is light, and the boat responds obediently to a flick of the fingers on the wheel.

Hallberg Rassy 352 for Sale and Survey

Todays assignment was back in Samos Island in Karlovasi Shipyard. They are nicely built the HR range. Hulls are hand laid using generous amounts of fibre and resin, and glassed-in longitudinal stringers are incorporated for strength and stiffness. Bulkheads and much of the furniture is also bonded to the hull and deckhead to further improve the rigidity of the structure. Shame some of the latest yachts have lost this build quality! 

They have a long, encapsulated fin keel containing three tons of cast iron ballast with a cutaway forward to aid tacking and manoeuvring at close quarters.

The Hallberg-Rassy 352 had a traditional, but very stout masthead rig with a full complement of oversized standing rigging.

Hardwoods abound, along with matching grained veneers, all of which were so well varnished from day one that many have remained in top condition with just a light routine polish.

This one has a new D2 55F Volvo diesel

This HR has a new SS fuel tank. The original metal ones don't last on a boat nearly 40 years old!

Surveyors comments: Things to check: Mast step compression and coachroof core around mast step. Fuel tank corrosion. Rudder gland packing. Sterngland packing. Deck core especially under and around anchor winch. Teak decks are usually screwed into the cored FRP deck!

Koopmans Yacht for sale and Yacht Survey in Greece

Todays Survey assignment was this Koopmans Yacht. The designer has more than 50 years experience in designing yachts for both sea-going cruisers and racers, motor yachts and other vessels.

Dick Koopmans Sr. started the Company in 1961, his first commissions were motorboats. However, with Dick being passionate about sailing, gradually he received more and more requests for the designs of sailing yachts. Up to 1985, he worked on his own, but when Dick Jr. graduated from the School for Advanced Technology VOF D. Koopmans Jachtontwerpers was established.

Ship wrecks from an era gone by. Chios is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, situated in the northern Aegean Sea. The island is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait and is not to far from the Black Sea!!
