Baltic 48 DP Survey

The first of the Baltic 48s was delivered end of 1985 and launched early spring 1986.This is an 86 model. This was another project in cooperation with Douglas Peterson. DP did the naval architecture and Baltic Yachts was responsible for the aesthetics and layouts, both for deck and interior.

Perhaps one of the most iconic Baltic Yachts of all time. Unmistakably a Baltic and with a style and presence that has continued through today and the very latest carbon creations producing by this prestigious Finnish custom yacht builder.

Adhering to the philosophy of ‘built the best possible sailing yacht, combing safe, easy handling performance cruising with high performance racing’, the Doug Peterson designed Baltic 48DP is a light to medium displacement design that blends superior performance with comfortable cruising characteristics. Baltic's emphasis on leading edge technology combined with the finest world reknown Finnish craftsman resulted in the 48DP as the standard bearer for a new generation of elegant performance ocean passage makers.

ALDABRA was custom designed and originally built for an Italian owner keen to enjoy serious racing, but at the same time to be able to cruise in real comfort. She benefits from a custom forward cabin arrangement with twin bunk cabins plus a further forepeak cabin with pipecots.

Surveyors comments: One of the best designed Yachts I have surveyed.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS for sale Ireland

Today's Survey was in Leros at our Greek base in the Aegean Islands. This boat seems to have found the sweet spot in several areas. It has an updated look that is not too radical, and its comfortable accommodations satisfy both form and function. Light-air performance is good, and I’d guess it could handle plenty more wind without much trouble.

Construction: Hull is solid hand-laid fiberglass reinforced with a one-piece structural grid. Additional reinforcement is added to the keel area and chainplate mounts. Deck is built using the Prisma (closed mold) resin-injection process.

Pros: Updated look, comfortable accommodations, good light-air performance.
Conns: Engine compartment was tight!

Marine Survey for Insurance in Enniskillen Ireland

I had the day on the River Shannon, Ireland  yesterday carrying out an Insurance Survey on this Linssen Motor Yacht.

Ultrasound Surveys are carried out to measure the hull plating thickness on vessels. Dozens of readings are taken around the vessels hull to look for areas where the hull plating may be thinning.

The Ultrasound Survey is not confined to hulls of vessels, bulkheads, decks and structures can also be measured as well as Aluminium and GRP hulls and other structures, contact us for your specific requirements.

Insight Marine Surveys also carry out Ultrasound Surveys on vessels as part of a Full Condition Survey. We have the latest ultrasonic thickness gauge instruments, they are non destructive and accurate readings are made without removing any of the paint or filler system. Our primary instrument is the Cygnus 4 multiple echo ultrasonic thickness gauge.

Insight Marine Surveys carries out Ultrasound Surveys on all types of vessels throughout the UK and Europe. We are experienced, hold qualifications in marine surveying and are members of surveying organisations including; International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) or The Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). Our rates are competitive.

Cygnus 2 - Equipment. A report is provided explaining the findings of the Ultrasound Survey. Within the report, problems found during the survey are listed and information is given on their importance and recommendations for repair. All the thickness measurements made during the survey including their position will be recorded within the report.

Once the survey has been completed we guarantee to provide the report within 24Hrs. We will spend the time to answer any questions about the survey and are happy to give any yachting advice.

Broom 35 European for Marine Survey in Ireland

Today I was carrying out a Marine Survey (Ireland) on this 35 European TSMY. She was one of the earlier models to utilise the now classic Broom layout of forward guest cabin, midships saloon, aft owners' cabin with en-suite toilet and shower, and the helm on the aft deck. The galley, partly open to the saloon, and a second toilet was between the forward cabin and saloon.

All boats had an internal helm on the port side of the saloon and could sleep from five to seven people, depending on layout variations and the size of the people, with two or three single berths in the forward cabin, two singles in the aft cabin and a single or double on the convertible settee in the saloon. In addition to the door onto the aft deck, the saloon has sliding doors on both sides giving access to the side decks.

Broom Information

Broom was opened in 1898 by Charles J Broom who was the grand father of Martin Broom. Martin entered the business after serving a five year apprenticeship at the then largest boat building company in East Anglia, Herbert Woods Ltd. Martin took over the business when his father Basil retired.

Good strong sea boats with excellent steerage.

Most earlier boats were fitted with twin Perkins H6.354 diesels of either 115hp or 145hp, the latter being turbo-charged, whilst some had 120hp Fords like this example. Most later boats, from 1978(?), were fitted with twin 140hp Volvos which, because they were taller, required the saloon floor to be raised several inches with a consequent change to the saloon roof, which is noticeably more 'cambered' on these later 'Mark 2' boats.

Broom Additional Information

During the 1930's Brooms expanded the hire fleet with the building of motor boats and this lead to demand from individuals asking Brooms to build boats for their own use.The company specialised in aft cabin semi displacement craft up to 50ft in length. In 2010 the Broom family sold the business to a Norfolk group who suspended building until later on in 2010.In 2012 broom bounced back with a relauched 30ft and 34ft range.
