First trip on 'Destiny'

Had a fantastic Bank Holiday on 'Destiny'. Shes loving her new surroundings after years on Loch Ness. She makes a fantastic home.... its not surprising why the Americans love the Grand Banks so much.

We will be lifting her out at Bells Marina for the next stage of her refit in two weeks time. Time to get the 'hammer and spike' out of the tool box!

Shadow 33

Today's assignment was at Norfolk Yacht Agency in Brundall carrying out a Pre-purchase Survey on this locally built boat the Shadow 33. Shadow Boatbuilders of Swancraft are located just next door from where we were lifting her out. She is quite rare, I think I have only ever surveyed one other. Surprisingly, NYA have two on their Brokerage for sale at the moment. She is perfect for a family/couple to cruise the inland waterways.

The specially designed hull offers good low speed manoeuvrability, with the propeller and rudder protected by a skeg.

Surveyors comments: Undoubtedly Shadow Boatbuilders employed some good craftsmen in 1995. She was well designed and extremely well constructed.

Grand Banks 42 Classic Refit - Brightwork

Its been a long hard slog, but the superstructure of my boat is almost complete now. Ive still got the floor of the top deck to paint, and a few more hand rails to go on, but Im really pleased with the paint finish, a Toplac from International in an Ivory, it blends in nicely with all the new Teak trims.

There were 10 coats of paint on the front coachroof, luckily the surface flattened back well for the new International. I replaced the 10mm Perspex on the escape hatch for 'clear' so you can see the stars!

Tons of new Burmese Teak from Tim Collin

Parki Teak floors throughout all cabins.
Dust, and more dust..

Six coats of varnish on the steps with new tread covers. Mast and rigging all completely refurbished.

New deck quadrants in Burmese Teak, handrails all refurbished with 6 coast of  Ravilakk. Shore power cover refurbished.

New cleats for the Derek.

Re-varnished and painted the nav light boxes. New downlights for the deck

Repainted the whole upper deck, sanded back and teak oiled all trims and varnished the wheel.

Just the deck paint to go... thinking light grey with margins...seat boxes totally refurbished... lots of rot removed - cushions refurbished and cleaned!

Some good before and after shots...

Tahiti Timber Launch

I was asked to carry out an Insurance Survey today on this lovely little Launch. She is a complete 'one off', built as a retirement present for a long serving Director. Shes from the 1930's era, built from Teak, so very very durable. Shes only 19ft long but looks 30ft when viewed from the front!

The owners, Adam and his wife have taken on quiet a few challenges, they are also setting up a Hire Company just for prestige Wooden Boats on the Broads, which includes their latest project restoring of a 1936 40ft 7 berth teak on oak Windboat called Christina. Adam says he wants to find out some more history on her (Windboats lost all their records in a fire and were not much use). Her current name is Lady Christine and she's just been relaunched after being out the water for around 13 years! Hopefully I will run a BLOG on her soon.....

A little gem.

She still has her old bilge pump!

Remember the Stewart Turner fuel tanks!
