Sheerline 740

The Sheerline 740 Aft Cockpit provides a perfect entry craft into river cruising. Fold-down screens and hood make this an ideal cruiser for inland waterways with restricted heights. The spacious aft cockpit features a large bench seat to the rear with twin adjustable helmsman's bucket seats. Well positioned stainless steel grab rails all round make for a safe craft for crew to walk around the outside. Despite its size, full standing headroom is a feature throughout this vessel. The forward cabin features two 'V' berths with the option of an infill making a double. The galley and dinette area provides seating for four in comfort and converts into a double berth. A shower and toilet compartment completes the high quality accommodation.

In most cases with a stock boat at Norfolk Yacht Agency their preparation will include a polish, antifoul and engine service where necessary, then you will be invited for a comprehensive handover to demonstrate and explain the boat’s equipment.  After handover, the engines and gearboxes are warranted against major faults for the next 3 months.

Fire prevention & extinguishing equipment...

I was at Richardson’s Boatyard in Stalham today carrying out four Valuation Surveys.

I thought this was a good idea on thier newer cruisers. A hole drilled through into the engine bay so you can extinguish a fire with one of the dry powder units located in the aft cabin. Stops air rushing in to the engine space if the engine room hatch is lifted to fight the fire ...(very dangerous) and saves on the cost of having a fixed system. Fixed systems are counted as additional to the absolute minimum requirements for portable extinguishers. If the fixed system is remotely operated it's a good idea for the release device to be readily accessible from outside the fire risk space so that the person using it is not placed in danger.

Broads Sunset.... one of the boats I valued today. Spec includes • 240v system • Bow thruster for ease of handling • Elevated stateroom with sliding canopy over provides superb all round visibility • Lower stern deck with boarding platform for easy access • Microwave • Vacuum cleaner • 14" 240v TV • DVD • CD • Stereo radio • Soft furnishings • Duvets and bed linen •  2 shower/WC rooms. Radiator central heating with instant hot water and 2 toilets/showers are en suite.

Exploring the Broads past and future

Bungay High school pupils dug into the origins of the Broads to help launch a plan that sets out a 20 year vision for the future on Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Carlton Marshes. Broads Authority chairman Dr Stephen Johnson launched Broads Plan 2011, the key strategic management plan for the area, alongside students studying environmental conservation at Bungay High School who travelled 6,000 years back in time to explore its past. They dug peat cores from six metres underground which showed them how the landscape of the Broads was formed.

The Broads Plan sets out a ‘Vision for the Broads to 2030’ together with long-term aims and short-term objectives. Over 600 organisations, groups and individuals with an interest in the Broads were invited to contribute to the plan, which is reviewed every five years. “From the peat cores the children were able to see a real example of how water levels have fluctuated in the Broads in response to climate change,” said Broads Authority Education Officer Nick Sanderson. “The peat that forms the Broads holds the key to both the past and the future. It preserves evidence of the historic habitats and vegetation of the area and locks in carbon from the atmosphere which contributes to global warming and climate change.” Helping residents and visitors to adapt to climate change and sea level rise, and leading the way towards a low carbon economy is central to the Broads Authority’s objectives.

It is one of three key priorities for the Broads Authority and its partners over the lifetime of this Broads Plan, alongside the sustainable management of the Broads landscape, biodiversity and navigation and encouraging local people and visitors to enjoy the Broads in a sustainable and caring way.

An electronic version of the Plan has been produced which will provide progress updates, links to relevant documents and partner websites and other supporting information. The e-Plan may be viewed at http://www.broads-plan.co.uk./

The Plan’s structure reflects the integrated and cross-cutting nature of the Broads Authority’s statutory functions, the multiple responsibilities of other agencies and bodies, and the wide variety of partnership working in the Broads area.

    Brooms build boats again

Broom Boats Ltd, Britain's longest established boat-building firm, is to start building its power cruisers again after a major re-organisation. It is only five months after it changed hands under difficult financial circumstances. The news, which should reassure many boat owners and those in the Norfolk Broads boat construction business, follows actions by new investors who took the company over in July and have since carried out a major financial re-organisation.

Boat-builder C.J.Broom Ltd., the subsidiary company of 112-year-old Broom Boats Ltd., of Brundall, Norfolk, went into voluntary liquidation two months ago with major debts and redundancies.

Today investor Mark Garner, now managing director, said: "I am pleased to say we have completed a total business review and re-organisation. We also have a new dealer network which has provided us with sales worth £1.5 - £2.5 million, sufficient for us to re-employ some of our past talented boat-building craftsmen.

"As a result we have been able to appoint a new and inspired management team, confirm total staff of 74 to both build boats and run marina services as one company, Broom Boats Ltd."

The new sales are for up to seven new cruisers being built in the next 12 months and work has already started. The Broom marina and boat service and repair business which always operated under the Broom Boats Ltd banner did not lose money in its own right and is largely un-affected.

Mr Garner also announced a new major investor and director to aid development. He is entrepreneur Tony Chancellor of Norfolk.

In future, prospective owners will buy only from dealers, not direct from Broom. The new dealer network includes two new firms. One is Norfolk Yacht Agency, a sales organisation which moves around 300 new and used boats a year and which has already brought in an order worth more than £650,000 - for a Broom 450, twin engined luxury cruiser capable of 30 knots.

James Fraser, who owns NYA, said: "We hope our representation of Broom here in East Anglia but also among our many contacts elsewhere should help their growth."

Broom have also appointed a new Thames region dealer, Thames Boat Sales of Bray, run by Dominic Smulders. He and the other existing dealers, in Ireland, Holland and Germany, also Newark, have confirmed or have pending, subject to finance, sales worth up to a further £2 million which should keep the reduced building force busy for a year.

A new Broom 395 is already in build at the yard along with a 450.
