Fairline Sprint 21

Today’s Survey was at Norfolk Yacht Agency in Brundall on the Norfolk Broads. I have Surveyed dozens of these little cruisers over the years. Im always impressed with their outstanding quality. The 90's were Fairlines boom years and they managed to produce these 21 Sprints to a very high standard. Ive never seen one with any ‘osmosis problems’ showing just how well the hulls were produced. She’s great for lazing around in on the Broads in the summer and extended trips throughout the winter… I didn’t trial her today, but would think she is more than happy to cruise at 24knots and capable of reaching 32knots, leaving owners of larger craft a little green!
Comfortably sleeps 4 with a midship cabin (great for the kids) and a convertible dinette. 2 more passengers can sleep under canvas on deck, in summer, as seating area converts to a double bed/sun lounger.

The service station at Norfolk Yacht is busy as usual .... another stern drive off for servicing

Hickling Regatta 2012

Had another great weekend at Hickling this year... the weather was all over the place which made some very interesting racing... big thanks to David Church for the pictures.

Just about to sail from Horning to Hickling... took us about 4 hours...

A bit bumpy out there...

The beers were flowing!
Great pic of the Chieftain... cheers Churchy

Great pic of Carl on 'Olivia'... and his new rig...

Charlie built a fantastic Norfolk Punt for his Dads 70'th which he raced on Sunday!

Hickling Broad.... or the North Sea!!

'Flash' my old boat just behind.. and me 'Havin a Go'

Price giving... and the rains cleared away

Interesting!

Broom 42CL

I have had a run of Surveys to carry out on Brooms Boats in the last few weeks. Here is another 42. The 42 CL is one of the largest boats in the coastal range, capable of combining a fast cruising sea boat with one suitable for European inland waterways. The 42 was the first boat to introduce the modern style "eyebrow" windows and also used a black frame for the saloon windscreen, giving it an all-in-one look. The easy to operate "pram hood" canopies were also introduced on this model.

A more spacious version of the 39 KL, the 42 CL has the trademark aft master cabin, deck saloon with sliding door access to port, the galley and dinette on the lower level, before the second heads and forward V-berth cabin. As with the 39KL, the dinette table can be lowered to convert into an occasional berth.

This one was typical and had the twin 350HP Yanmar diesels configuration.

There were 49 vessels built between the years 2000 and 2007.

Her twin Yanmar (300hp) diesel engines will give her a good turn of speed and her shallow keel will help maintain control at low speed.

Surveyors comments:

This Broom 42cl motorboat was clearly ahead of her time as you can see by her lines and innovative design features. A good sturdy sea boat and yet just as able to find its place cruising inland waterways.

Alpha Craft 31

Alphacraft is a family run business which has been established for over 40 years and has been based in Brundall on the Norfolk Broads for 36 of them.

As well as running a hire fleet of 22 boats, they specialize in building GRP mouldings which are designed by themselves in various sizes and shapes. A lot of boats seen on the Norfolk Broads are their design. They have sold lots of mouldings to different boat yards, like this 31 example fitted out by Russell Marine in South Walsham who then designed the interior to their own liking.

Surveyors review: It is well known on the Norfolk Broads that the finish of the Alpha mouldings is not perfect, and not to the standard of the Aquafibre mouldings built at Brooms, however, the Aquafibre mouldings will cost you quite a lot more. If your not concerned with a few imperfections in the gelcoat the Alpha mouldings are perfectly adequate.

Barton Regatta 2012

Spectacular Racing
Each Autumn all the yachts in Anne Whelptons fleet are available to compete in the hire boat sailing regatta on Barton Broad sponsored by Waterways Holidays.

Over 30 yachts take part in this event which includes a series of races in the beautiful surroundings of Barton Broad and a programme of social events each evening, culminating in the Regatta dinner and prize-giving.

The regatta is a long established and highly popular event, providing the opportunity for competitive sailing and great company. Participants require a reasonable level of sailing ability, with confidence to handle a yacht in company with others.

The dates of the regatta in 2012 are 13th to 20th October.

The images below show some of the fantastic sailing you could be part of. Send a Booking Request to Anne at Upton Dyke to see if dates are available. Further pictures can be found on flickr.
