Alpha 29

Norfolk Boat Sales in Wroxham was my destination today to Survey this Alpha 29. Alphacraft has over the years created a number of designs for Broadland cruisers each available in a variety of sizes and layouts.

A fixed cockpit and flying bridge give this boat a lot more space than the original Alpha 29.
Production Years were: 1986-92

Even a small bath!

Looking at the builders plate: Crown Cruisers and then a life in France!

Yes!

Surveyors comments: A 29ft boat with the space you would expect from a 35ft plus. Offering a huge aft cabin with an en-suite bathroom, a 'V' berth with a double conversion and an en-suite forward with a large saloon and galley.

Broad Star Premiere Class

I had a trip to Richardson Boat Yard in Stalham on the North Broads today to take a look at this beautiful old Broads Cruiser. Built by Jack Powles in 1963, shes the same age as me!

Shes one of the Powles Star Premiere Class, with this hinged canopy with stern well access. In the 70s and early 80s, Jack Powles was one of the Country's major powerboat builders, alongside Brooms, but in the early 1990s they became JPC Ltd. and no longer actively built boats. However, Powles started building sailing craft early last century, following on with a number of classic wooden designs including the 'Star' and 'Foam' classes, before moving into GRP in the mid 1960s.

Many of the Powles fleet have dispersed to other waterways, but a few remain on the Broads.

This large 'Big Foot' hoist is ideal for lifting the old wooden boats.....

Original features that traditionalist buyers demand....

Art Deco!

Landamores 28

My apologies for my lack in BLOGGING this month. Boat sales are through the roof and i seem to spend most of my time on the computer trying to keep ontop of all the paperwork involved in running a small surveying business. The recession is definitely over as the smaller boats are even selling, where last year it was only the big stuff.

I Surveyed this Landmores Cruiser Class Yacht today over at Obey Dyke. Design is the Elanco 28 / Landamore 28. The Builder i think was David Raggett of Lincs. She is of a fiberglass construction with a wooden top to give that authentic feel. Designed and built to race- apparently very fast!

The open plan cabin creates loads of room for a boat this size.

Large sail area- lots of power...

Belt driven engine, making use of all the available space...
The transom is plywood clad over fiberglass to give that Classic Wooden Boat look!

Otter 31

I Surveyed this little Narrow Boat yesterday at Haven Marina in Lowestoft. Sea Otter the builders are based in Staveley, Derbyshire and are renowned for their high quality alloy boats and excellent customer care. They are made from a marine-grade aluminium alloy, the same sort of material used for harbour work boats, oil rig support vessels, the Swedish Navy, the Thames water police, some cross-channel ferries and life-boats.

Boat Spotters ! Hull numbers are engraved in the engine bay.

Lovely day for boating at Haven Marina...

Surveyors comments:

I noticed when driving her into the dock that they are light in weight, so a strong gust could be more of a problem than with a similar-sized steel boat; but have you ever tried to push off a steel boat which is wedged firmly against a bank? You can do it single handed with a pole when you have a Sea Otter.
