Hampton Safari Mark II

I was at Richardson’s in Stalham today Surveying one of their stock boats (ex hire). Ex hire boats are always being added to their sales list so if you don't find what you are looking for give them a call. There stock boats have been inspected by their Service Centre and prepared for sale. All items of equipment will work at time of handover (unless marked otherwise and excluded from the boat’s specification). In most cases Richardson’s preparation will include a polish, antifoul and engine service where necessary. After handover, the engines and gearboxes are warranted against major faults for the next 3 months.

Great little Cruiser... the perfect floating caravan... ideal starter boat for the Broads.

A good one will cost you K14....

Haines 35 Offshore

I was back at Norfolk Yacht Agency today Surveying this locally built Motor Cruiser.

Haines have a great reputation for quality motor cruisers, primarily for inland waterways - until now. This Sedan 35 Offshore takes Haines build quality out to sea. The Offshore 35 came onto the Market in 2009 and immediately received great reviews for its excellent sea going qualities. It is an ideal boat for both inland and offshore use and built to luxurious standards. The accommodation is primarily designed for two people with room for day guests; you can sleep 4 with the use of the saloon area.
The Yanmar 180hp diesel engines provides good performance, the boat is capable of just under 25Knots.

Surveyors comments:  It is becoming well recognised that the Haines Brand represents both excellent value, while being produced to an exceptionally high standard of finish.

Norfolk Broads Wooden Crusier

An absolute beauty of the Broads!

I Surveyed this relatively young wooden boat today…. built when I was one years old making her nearly 50 (Gulp!). One of only 6 ever built by J Loynes of Wroxham and called Loch Connan, she had been lovingly restored. Stripped right back to the bare mahogany.

Offering spacious accommodation for up to four people in two cabins. The large double forward has a tv. There is a separate head opposite a large shower room. The additional double is made up from the sofa in the roomy aft cabin/saloon, which also houses the galley in a large open plan style.

Martham Boats have an excellent Big Foot Hoist for lifting wooden boats out of the water safely and quickly

Surveyors comments: Yes this is a weed hatch.... A weed hatch, if not properly secured, can allow water into the bilges of a boat, which could ultimately cause it to sink. It's advisable for privately owned boats to have a secure and watertight weed hatch which reaches to at least 150mm (6ins) above the waterline, when the boat is loaded up as normal.

Propex Gas Heaters

Im seeing this a lot at the moment, Gas and Diesel heaters (warm air) hidden in lockers that are being used for storing paint, plastic bags, gas canisters etc. These Warm Air Heaters can get very hot when continuously running….. keep them well clear of anything combustible.

This unit was covered over in plastic bags...

Seamaster 8m

I had a Survey to carry out about 5 minutes from home today. The perfect Monday job!

They are popular Cruisers on the Broads these Seamaster 8m’s. This one was for sale at Sutton Boat Yard just near Stalham on the Northern Broads. A good one comes in around 15K.

If you want your boat pulling out quickly... give the guys at Sutton Staithe a shout... excellent for the smaller craft

The Seamaster 8 metre was first built in 1970, last built in 1980. Builders Seamaster Ltd turned out 115 boats of this model, one of their extensive range of 20 to 30ft Cruisers.

Breaking with convention, the boat has its main living area, with galley and dinette, and the aft cabin. The dinette can be converted into a double berth (that much is conventional), and then there are two separate single berths in the forward cabin, ahead of the toilet compartment and a large wardrobe. In between the cabin, the helm position is a amidships cockpit, open but with a canopy that can gives shelter or with the side panels in place, can enclose the area completely.

The shallow to medium vee hull has a long, shallow keel, making the boat suitable for inland or coastal cruising. The single versions should really be just used inland.

Powered by single or twin BMC, Ford or Perkins. This one had the Perky 4108 Taxi engine about 40HP. The boat is capable of about 12 knots with a Ford 50HP.

Surveyors comments: Ideal Norfolk Broads Boat and excellent value for all the room you get. It will be very difficult to find one without some sort of osmosis blistering on the bottom. Unless the blisters are widely spread or large and numerous, no remedial action is usually necessary.

Its often worth testing the window seals with a hose pipe. On the older models the window sealant has probably hardened.
To stop windows leaking you may have use a non-hardening caulking so that the caulking can move with the expansion. To deal with this problem, you may have to remove the frames, rebed them and refasten them less tightly than they were previously installed.
